Good graphic design can add a lot to a web page design. But good web page design dictates we adhere to certain "rules" in order to accomplish our goals without sacrificing, or alienating, traffic from our visitors.

a variety of monitors and through many different web browsers. Many colors that look good on one monitor, or in a particular browser, will look horrible in yet another. The same is true of logo designs, we do for our business clients.

On "your" monitor what you see as a bright red may actually be a dark red or even violet on some other monitor - depending on the age and type of monitor and the web browser actually being used!

Be aware that graphic images can add a LOT to the download times of a page - UNLESS they have been properly optimized. Have you ever tried to go to a website that took several minutes to even open (download) the first page?

Sure you have - but I bet you didn't stick around long did you. In today's hurry up, want it now, world people will not wait for several minutes for a page to download. They'll just hit the back button and go to another site!

Even a small picture can make a web page take forever to open. When you use graphics on a web page they MUST be optimized and properly sized. Look at the two pictures below:

Although they both may "look" the same the actual file size of the one on the left is OVER 10 TIMES larger than the exact same picture on the right that has been properly optimized! That means the picture on the left will take 10 TIMES longer to download than the same exact picture you see on the right.

The same holds true with videos, flash objects and movies or any other graphical element you may use. So be sure your webmaster understands this crucial factor and knows HOW to optimize graphic elements and page styles to make your web pages load fast.

Remember this - As of 1/1/2011 Internet usage surveys show that over 21% of ALL worldwide Internet users are still using slow dial up services! And over 18% of the US market has slow Internet services as well.
